Description
All metal
Thanks to the all-metal upgrade for Artillery 3D printers, it is possible to upgrade the printer for high-temperature applications up to 300 ° C. Many new materials such as nylon, PC, carbon fibre, glass fibre and other advanced filaments can be processed. Thanks to high-quality metal parts, the wear resistance is also significantly improved compared to the original direct drive extruder.
Integrated hardened steel nozzle
The hardened steel nozzle is very wear-resistant, temperature-resistant and has a long service life. It is therefore very suitable for highly abrasive filaments.
Easy installation
This upgrade is installed on the printer with just a few screws.

Smooth upgrade, everything seems to work fine
Rated with 5 out of 5 stars.
Upgrade instructions by Artillery are a bit lacking, but it was still easy to do. Didn't upgrade the firmware since I got this mainly to avoid teflon fumes (toxic!), and with stock firmware it's still enough to reach PETG temperatures (did not try that yet).
Works without problem with PLA after some adjustments: increased temp by 5, increased printing speed, decreased retraction a bit.
Works very well.
It's still possible to upgrade the stock with slightly lower total price (you will need to disassemble the whole thing and replace the heat break and the nozzle) but this upgrade is really easy to do AND also leaves you with replacement parts.
The spring with a cog had to be adjusted a bit before fitting, but that's ok, I would keep it at 5 stars since everything worked smoothly. Was this rating helpful? (0) (0)

Artillery SW X2 All Metal Direct Drive Upgrade
Rated with 4 out of 5 stars.
Very easy to fit. The 2 top mounting screws are effectively held 'captive' by the blue cover piece (which will need removing to extract the screws from the old drive and also to place the screws in the new drive). If the printer is laid on it's back (being caeful not to put any weight on the Z-screws) the bottom mounting screw can be placed in it's hole with a tweezer and will simply sit in place whilst tightened . The end of the black ribbon cable pushes into a slot down the centre of a white connection block and the blue clip then pushes on to hold it in place,
Don't forget to re-level and set the z-offset again afterwards since the level distance between the nozzle and probe tips will most likely be different now.
Also, if you are going to use PLA with this All Metal hotend you will probably need to use a temperature 10 to 15 degrees hotter than before and also to reduce the retraction distance (0.8 mm worked for me) to avoid clogging, See https://letsprint3d.net/all-metal-hotends-troubleshooting-guide/
Artillery's QA on this Direct Drive Upgrade doesn't seem that great as my new levelling probe didn't work (giving me a code 999 error) and nether did the LED light. Neither are a big deal though as I simply swapped out the probe for the one on the old drive and aren't really bothered about the light.
I haven't upgraded the firmware yet but other reviews here give details and, if I can update this review later, I will when I have done it.Was this rating helpful? (1) (0)
